Happy New Year Hernando Beach
December 28, 2009

Will 2010 bring much needed changes for the Coastal Hernando?  A few proposals gathered by the CHIP (Coastal Hernando Initiatives Project) members which is made up of community members familiar with their own neighborhoods centered around what would make the area safer, more functional and more attractive to tourism and business development will be proposed sidewalks & trails which would take 4 phases to complete.

Phase 1 would run from Rogers Park to County Rd 550.  Phase 2 would run from Hernando Beach South to Osowaw Blvd. Phase 3 from Osowaw Blvd and Shoal Line Blvds East to the shopping area at Osowaw and US19 and finally phase 4 is a walking path from US 19 at Weeki Wachee Springs to Bayport.  Can you imagine what a beautiful nature walk this would be?  Western Hernando has so much to offer but we need changes like these to help stimulate visitors to our area.

A Nature Coast Boardwalk is also being presented which would start at the entrance to the Weeki Wachee Preserve and run aprallel to Shoal Line up to Linda Pedersen Park.  Phase 2 would run from Linda Pedersen Park to Rogers Park West of Weeki Wachee.

The third top proposal is emergency lanes for Shoal Line Boulevard which would begin at County Rd 550 and end at Osowaw Blvd.

Of course there are environmental concerns, but discussions are ongoing.  By improving this desirable area with amenties such as these,  it could be a beginning for many new businesses to enhance Hernando County even further.  The dredging of Hernando Beach is in process as well as the completion of the new and improved Bayport Park.

We'll keep you posted!
Have a great day and enjoy!
