It is very sad to know that people in Hernando County, Florida (Spring Hill, Brooksville and Weeki Wachee) are hungry. It is something I struggle with because in this great country, no one should be going hungry.
However, there is a great group of volunteers that meet every second and fourth Sunday of the month at the Senior Club on Rhanbuoy (just off of 19) to feed the hungry in our area. Yesterday when I was volunterring, we fed probably over 90 people from young families with children to the elderly. They receive a salad, hot entree and dessert.
I would like to thank the organizations that donate the food (some voluteers also do the initial cooking) - Yesterday, "The Restaurant" on 19 donated lasagna. Publix is unbelievable in the amount of bread and desserts that they donate (and I believe they do it all the time for us). They give enough bread for people to take loaves home! Other local restaurants in the past weeks also have donated.
This is a sad time but if we all come together to help our neighbors, we will get through it. If you and your family need a hot meal, we serve from 4 to 6 every other Sunday in the Senior Center on Rhanbuoy (off of 19 behind Brewer's Funeral Home).
