I had a rough day yesterday; real estate deals are getting harder and harder to get through, but I had plans to go to dinner with a friend of mine. She suggested we ride up to Crystal River and go to The Cafe on the Avenue since she had gone there for dinner and it was great.
We live in Weeki Wachee (the Spring Hil area) and it is about a half hour drive. I picked her up and we took SR19 which is a nice ride north of Weeki Wachee. Crystal River is a small quaint town and the "Avenue" has some small shops and restaurants (not many) but quaint. I said I don't think it is open as we pulled into the parking lot, which would have been par for the course for the type of day I was having; however, luckily I was wrong. It looks empty and it was (we were the first customers of the evening), but you have go around and through these other doors. It was quite a surprise. The place is decorated very nicely with wood planked floors, high ceilings, big comfortable chairs and tables.
The server was a young girl who was excellent. I ordered the chautebriand which came with asparagus w/ hollandaise sauce and a roasted tomatoe, and a salad. The rolls were great, the salad was good and the meal was delicious. My friend had a petite filet mignon (she's petite herself) and she said it was also excellent. On Saturday nights, there is a piano player. They also close off rooms for large groups.
They only have a beer and wine license but are expecting their liquor license some time in April.
The best was yet to come. I am on a diet (#46 this year) was the dessert! They had an assortment but I had the hummingbird cake (like a spice cake) but it was out of this world!
They are open for lunch and dinner and a Sunday Brunch. The phone number is 352-795-3656 (they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays).
It definetely put me in a better mood than the way I started out. Today's another day - I may have to go back tonight.
We will always keep you posted.
